Abstract

How to let people think more about death?

I came up with the idea o f this project, which is divided into three parts: ending note,
photography and exhibition. During the process of the mentioned methods, people will all be encouraged and led to think more about the subject of death.

However, at the end, it will not be only about death, but ‘more’ than death. When asked about death, we also talk about the people one had loved, the lifestyle one had lived and the thing one had been proud of.

We tend to be scared of talking about death, but it shouldn’t always be a serious subject. Through my project, I hope to remind people that it is death that gives living a meaning.

Background

In the project PLUS KAGA, I found that there are 41% of people are 60 years old and above among the population in KAGA area. The data gave me the chance to ponder the problems of passing away in loneliness and the death of the elder people, which is obviously an issue we have to focus on.

In the process of interviewing and filling in the questionnaire, I found that most of the people didnot consider the last day in their life, and were not prepared to face death.

We can not avoid death in our life, yet we can try to take a closer look at this serious issue and to face the last day in our life in a better condition.

The will offers people an opportunity to discuss death. Through the process, we do get the chance to think about the way how we lived before, the condition of the current life style, and how we are going to face death in order to cherish each moment.

Also, I would like to present the energy of KAGA through the exhibition which presents the images of the interesting people who own their unique life style and have their own stories to inspire and connect with the young generation.

Specific outline

Living after knowing death: Designing the templates of will and motiving people to ponder the meaning of death through answering the questions which are listed on one’s will. Discussing death while one is still living is not a negative thing at all. We talk about death, life, life style, and love as well.

photography and Exhibition : to pick some interesting questions from the will and held an exhibition which unfolds different aspects of life of the people who have their own life style and philosophy through photography, words, and the digital media.
